Historic Primm Springs
An hour’s drive from Nashville, Primm Springs is located at the head of Puppy Branch of Dog Creek. Listed as an historic district in the National Register of Historic Places, the area matches Westhaven Farm as a unique place to call home.
Hickman County is home to three large mineral springs that were once the location of prominent water spas. Renowned for the medicinal qualities attributed to its mineral waters, Primm Springs was a destination for visitors from Middle Tennessee and beyond for more than 100 years during the 19th and 20th centuries.
In addition to the healing springs, a dance hall and bowling alley were erected near the head of the hollow in the 1920s as the resort area boomed during the state and federal Prohibition.
The cool, clean water flowing from the springs was also an essential ingredient to the area’s infamous history as a production hub for moonshine whiskey, earning the area the nickname, “Keg County.” It’s possible that the local moonshine was as enticing to resort guests as the mineral springs!
Winding through the county and laced with interesting historic sites, the Natchez Trace Parkway connects Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi along the same route of the historic trace. While it still connects the two cities, the Parkway is itself a destination for motorists, cyclists, motorcycle enthusiasts, history lovers and nature seekers.
